Knox Pages correspondent Dan Werner wrote a feature on Bill Barbour’s 50 years of owning and operating Irish Hills. It goes back to 1976, when he bought a nine hole course, and covers the tunnel under State Route 13 and the back nine he designed and built himself.
We are celebrating with a scramble on Saturday, August 22.

Mark your calendar — Saturday, August 22, 2026 is Bill Barbour’s 50th Anniversary Outing here at Irish Hills. This fall, Bill celebrates 50 years of owning and operating Irish Hills Golf Club, and we’re throwing a golf outing in his honor. It’s a surprise, so if you see Bill around the pro shop, keep it under your hat!
Check-in is at 8:00 AM with a 9:00 AM shotgun start. Every player gets 18 holes with a cart, lunch and a drink ticket, games out on the course, a gift, and a shot at the raffle, which includes four 2027 Play More memberships for anyone who pre-pays by Friday, August 14.
Full team (4 players): $400
Individual: $100 (we’ll pair you with a team)
Member rate: $75 per player
The field is capped at 36 teams, so don’t wait too long to sign up. After you pay, be sure to register your names in Live Tourney so we have your roster and handicaps.
Can’t make it out to play? We’re putting together a book of memories for Bill and handing it to him at the end of the day. Stop by the site to leave a story or a photo — every memory helps make the day special.

Knox Weekly News sat down with Bill Barbour Sr. He talks about buying a course with no irrigation on the greens, ten three wheel carts, and one employee.
He talks about the neighbors and friends who helped build the back nine, and about Helen Lanning offering the land next door that made 18 holes possible. He also talks about treating the teenagers who worked here like family.
